AMAZING NEWS. RAGGED WING HAS JUST BEEN AWARDED A CALIFORNIA ARTS COUNCIL 2015 “CREATIVE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITIES” GRANT TO SUPPORT THE FLIGHT DECK!

We have just been awarded $53,900 through the Creative California Communities program, which supports large-scale collaborative projects that harness arts and culture as a key economic and/or community development strategy. We are one of thirty funded projects statewide that will benefit residents and visitors in California’s communities by leveraging the assets of the creative sector, which includes artists, cultural organizations and arts-related businesses.

On June 6th 2014, Ragged Wing Ensemble opened The Flight Deck at 1540 Broadway, a shared multidisciplinary performance and art space for artists of all kinds and ages to work, play, learn and thrive in the heart of Downtown Oakland. Formerly a warehouse, the building that houses The Flight Deck stood empty and unused for three decades. Now we’ve built a theater, a rehearsal studio, a gallery, and a co-working office. The location is easily accessible by foot and public transit, and there is a parking lot on the same block.

The Flight Deck hosts performances, film festivals, gallery shows, rehearsals, classes for youth and adults, and offers a membership program. The theater, rehearsal studio, conference room, and co-working space are available for rental at reasonable rates.

In addition to Ragged Wing, The Flight Deck is home to several other resident theater and dance companies as well as visual and performing art members. The Flight Deck builds partnerships with local businesses, organizations, schools and city government to become a fixture in the community, providing a home for the arts in the East Bay and contributing to Oakland’s growth as a cultural destination.

THE FLIGHT DECK was voted BEST NEW ARTS VENUE in The East Bay Express for 2014 and 2015.

The Co-Working Office space hosts our Resident Companies, city conferences and a variety of artistic memberships throughout the year.
